The collections of the Virginia Wheeler Martin Family History & Learning Center focus on Medina County, Ohio with print materials and microfilm. Resources for counties bordering Medina County, the state of Ohio, and states with migration paths to Ohio are also collected.

Programs[edit | edit source]

Digital Lab[edit | edit source]

In the Digital Lab, library patrons have access to four digitizing stations, where they can convert home movies, slides/negatives, printed photographs, audio recordings, and more into digital files. Appointments are strongly recommended for use of the equipment. Learn more at https://mcdl.info/makerspace.

Obituary Retrieval[edit | edit source]

Medina County District Library is a member of the R. B. Hayes Ohio Obituary Index. Individuals may request copies of obituaries from Medina County newspapers to be sent to them electronically at no cost. History[edit | edit source]

Medina County District Library began on January 15, 1877 when a group of interested individuals founded the Medina Circulating Library Society. It wasn't until 30 years later that the library opened on its present site under the name The Franklin Sylvester Public Library. Today, the Medina County District Library system includes multiple branches and a bookmobile serving locations throughout Medina County, Ohio. The Virginia Wheeler Martin Family History & Learning Center is the newest addition to the MCDL system, having opened on December 6, 2020.
