Jurisdictions[edit | edit source]
There are eight regional divisions in Japan that are used exclusively for convenience and no government administrative entities are located on these levels. Regions are used for weather reporting and to help identify where businesses are located in Japan. These regions should not be confused with the eight High Courts of Japan as their jurisdictions do not correspond. [1]
The Hokkaido Region consists of the Island of Hakkaido. [2]

Prefectures are analogous to states or provinces. The Hokkaido Region includes only one prefecture:
