Default notifications[edit | edit source]

Your FamilySearch account is initially set to send you an email and generate a notification under the Alerts icon (see below) when there is

  • A message posted on your User Talk page
  • A change made to your Wiki user role
  • A change made to any Wiki page you are watching.

These notifications can be changed to suit your needs.

To Change Notification Options[edit | edit source]

Use the instructions below to change your options for receiving notifications.

Email options[edit | edit source]

1. Sign in to your FamilySearch account.
2. In the top right hand corner of the screen, click on Preferences.
3. Select the User profile tab, scroll down to Email options, and manage each type of email notification by checking or unchecking its box.

  • Allow other users to email me
  • Allow emails from brand-new users
  • Send me copies of emails I send to other users
  • Email me when a page or a file on my watchlist is changed
  • Email me also for minor edits of pages and files

Notifications options[edit | edit source]

The FamilySearch wiki can notify you of various events occurring within it.

1. Sign in to your FamilySearch account.
2. In the top right hand corner of the screen, click on Preferences.
3. Select the Notifications tab and choose the events for which you want notification by checking or unchecking their boxes. Notification will occur through the internal Alerts icon (see below) and/or email.

  • Mention
  • Page link
  • User rights change
  • Edit revert
  • Email from other user

Alerts icon[edit | edit source]

When you are signed in, notifications can be found on any wiki page by clicking the Alerts icon at the top of the page (the picture of a bell to the right of your user name). The presence of new notifications is indicated by a red number beside the Alert icon. These are the same notifications you manage on the Notifications tab of your Preferences. Notification of an email message will contain only the first part of that message. The user must check their email to view the full message.
